In hopes of saving themselves as well as the girl they just swore to protect Ezra and Cano accepted the deal with Headon to climb the Tower.
And they immediately woke to find themselves in a field of lush green grass, taller than any of them. Over a loudspeaker a voice claimed that the first test for anyone wishing to climb the Tower was to reduce the 400 people in the current area to 200, “by any means at all”. Shortly after they heard screams.
The girl with them was awake now, but fairly groggy and introduced herself as Mars. She was very keen to know what had happened to the man she had been with, and was disappointed with Ezra and Cano both for apparently not being badass enough. But what does she know, she was asleep through the whole thing.
Cano spotted a structure in the distance and suggested they head that way while avoiding people’s “any means at all”. On the way there they met a tall silver haired girl with a long wide bladed sword. She leisurely strolled past them laughing about something and generally being rude. After she went back into the grass there was a brief scream and a small amount of blood splattered about. The group nodded to each other and counted this as a win.
The next encounter was with a trio of men. One of them seemed itching for a fight, but was held back by a comrade, so everybody peaceably went their separate ways with weapons trained on each other.
When they got to the structure Ezra recognized it as an elevator, and since they saw that there seemed to be bodies littered around that it wouldn’t be a good idea to stick around the most obvious landmark too long hey is that a cliff over there let’s check it out like right now.
After getting to the cliff things didn’t seem to be any better, as a giant alligator man was sitting proudly on a rock picking something (hopefully not someone) out of his teeth. He said something about fishing and turtles and the group took their leave.
Right about then the PA sounded again and after the group heard the next test was to “get a ride” Cano grabbed Mars and immediately started booking it back the way they came. Ezra strolled along much more leisurely because he’s not nearly so slow as Cano. When they got back to the elevator they were not at all surprised to find blood and gore aplenty because by now they had become desensitized to all the ruddy violence.
After an overly complicated explanation and one person getting shot (twice!) the group of three made it into a four person elevator car, and their smiles were simply not winning enough for them to get an extra person so Ezra went out to find somebody. Preferably alone and amenable to being knocked out. Of course the first person he ran into was the crazy girl with the sword who shouted at him to go and grab those other weakling that he was with earlier and get into the seven person car.
The ride up was pretty tense with all of the occupants save one (and her sword) on one side of the elevator.
After reaching their destination (some sort of giant floating building) everyone piled out into a hall full of the others that had managed to avoid death. Naturally some of these immediately tried resuming killing those next to them. The woman on the PA appeared and congratulated them on not dying, told them to quit killing each other (plenty of time for that later), threw everyone against a wall, made them walk through totally not a forcefield, nearly killed someone who couldn’t, got everyone to chug back an Irish car bomb (courtesy of Cano), and introduced herself as Tu Perie the Director of the Second Floor.
Next came a lighthearted game with crazy sword girl sitting in a chair and everyone else trying to steal her hat. Naturally a lot of people got stabbed, including Cano and Ezra. Mars somehow actually did it but nobody was impressed because they were all unconscious and trying to not lose more blood.
Afterwards everyone who could walk went to bed and everyone who couldn’t was dragged.
The next morning a number of posters were found up various places demanding that someone named Blue Raspberry get some blue clothing to match her namesake.
